Relay for Life

Each year, across the nation, one event brings together entire communities to+ take part in the fight against cancer. That event is the American Cancer Society Relay For Life®. It’s a time and place where people come to celebrate those who have survived cancer, remember those we’ve lost, and fight back against a disease that touches too many lives.


The Relay for Life for Bingham County is coming up, June 20. This week they are "painting the town purple" in preparation for the event. The surgeons area has started a team called..."THE INCREDIBLE PREVENTABLES!" If you want to join the team, talk to Colleen Adams and she can set you up!


The Incredible Preventables are going to be having some fundraising activities to raise money for the event. Next Wednesday, June 11th, they will be having a salad bar during lunch to take donations. They will be raffling off some gift baskets and anyone can buy a ticket. Some of items being raffled are: a massage, hair products, and wine for the wine lovers. Or, if you just want to donate to the cause, they will gladly accept.


There will be other activities leading up to the relay and here are some of them:


June 7


*Car wash at Zions Bank with eligible Bachelors and Bachelorettes washing cars in the morning


*Fun Run


*Bachelor and Bachelorette auction at the Elks Lodge. This is for anyone and they will be having raffles and auctions throughout the night. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.


June 14


*Yard sale from 8am-noon, north of Wal-Mart in the First American Title parking lot. If you have items you want to donate, put prices on them and give them to Colleen and it will help The Incredible Preventable with their fundraising goal.


*3 on 3 basketball tournament


June 20


*Relay for Life starts at 5pm


*There will be a B-B-Que in the Bleachers for $10


*After the B-B-Que will be a celebrity look-a-like contest


*Ceremony of Life will start around 10pm when it is dark


*Colleen will have her karaoke machine going all night


*There will be food booths and live entertainment all night

The Ceremony of Life: As the light dims over campsites and team members complete laps, the night is brightened by the glow of lighted bags called luminaria, each of which has a special meaning. Some luminaria celebrate the survivorship of people who have battled cancer and lived to tell the tale. Many commemorate the lives of those who have been lost to this disease. All represent a person who has been profoundly affected by cancer and the family and friends who continue to be touched by that experience. If you would like to purchase a luminaria, they can be purchased for $10 (talk to Colleen), and you can decorate it however you wish.

You don't have to be on a team, just come down and walk a few laps and show your support. Bring your kids or grandkids too. Wear them out walking or send them to the movie tent to watch movies. This is a great cause and every little bit helps.
