BLACKFOOT — Warren Preston Tarpley, 67, of Blackfoot, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his home, after a very courageous battle with luekemia, surrounded by friends and family. He was born March 21, 1942 in Los Angeles, California the son of Claude and Tailitha Lucille Porter Tarpley. He attended school in Auburn, California and graduated from Placer High School where he participated in football and track. He was a member on several teams which won division championships. He then attended Sierra College in Rockland, California. Preston served in the Navy from 1959-1963 as a 2nd Class Electronic Technician. He boxed for Treasure Island and in 1961 was the 12th Naval District Welter Weight Boxing Champion. He was honorably discharged in 1963. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he worked for Aerojet and then the Sacramento Army Depot as an electronics engineer, retiring in 1993. In 1995 he then moved to Idaho. On August 12, 2005 he married Debra Erramouspe in Blackfoot, Idaho. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, golfing, camping, working on computers, bicycling, fixing anything, reading and learning about politics, science and life in general. He is survived by his wife, Debra of Blackfoot; sons, Donald (Vicki) Tarpley of Irrigon, Oregon, Robert Bren Tarpley of Hamilton, New Jersey, Nick (Jen) Staley of Blackfoot and Shawn (Angela) Staley of Meridian, Idaho; brother, Jimmy Tarpley of Dubois, Idaho; sisters, Janice McKenzie of Lawrence, Kansas and Shirley Tarpley of Sacramento, California; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mickey Tarpley. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave.The family will meet with friends from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday and for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.
