So, what's new in Blackfoot? I'm sure all the snow has melted by now! My in-laws just left a month ago after a 3 month vacation here. My brother might be coming here for the holidays. No, I'm not working yet and I'm still not pregnant although we're ready for another one, even David! Enjoy your summer and hello to everyone.

(They are moving (AGAIN!) to Wellington (near West Palm Beach) by September. Conrad found a job there as a hospitalist. I'm hoping we'll settle there for a while because I'm getting tired of moving. We'll still be renting a house though. Another chapter begins...

We had a lot of support from our clinic family for the Relay for Life. We had at least 27 team members plus their family and friends. Due to so much support, it was hard to get a team photo with our entire team. So, when they came to get pictures, we had to just get one taken while they were there. So, for those of you who didn't make it into the picture, I am sorry. Don't be afraid to send your pictures to me and I will put them up for you! Thanks for her help and support for this years Relay for Life. Hope to see you next year!

Relay Events

The day arrived for the Incredible Preventables to show their support to fight cancer. We dressed in our proper "Incredibles" attire of capes and mask. So, through the night, you would often see the infamous capes. Mr. and Mrs. Incredible were also spotted there (for those of you who have seen the movie!).

There was a night full of entertainment from line dancing, pudding eating contest, and lots of goodies! There was a baton decorating contest and here is a picture of Colleen showing off our teams baton:

And for all of Collens hard work, she was given a gift to show our thanks. She really did a great job and we couldn't have done it without her. Thank you Colleen.

History of the Relay for Life

One person can make a difference. Nowhere is that more evident than with the story of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, which began in Tacoma, Washington, as the City of Destiny Classic 24-Hour Run Against Cancer.

In the mid-1980s, Dr. Gordy Klatt, a Tacoma colorectal surgeon, wanted to enhance the income of his local American Cancer Society office. He decided to personally raise money for the fight by doing something he enjoyed—running marathons.

In May 1985, Dr. Klatt spent a grueling 24 hours circling the track at Baker Stadium at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma for more than 83 miles. Throughout the night, friends paid $25 to run or walk 30 minutes with him. He raised $27,000 to fight cancer. That first year, nearly 300 of Dr. Klatt's friends, family, and patients watched as he ran and walked the course.
While he circled the track those 24 hours, he thought about how others could take part. He envisioned a 24-hour team relay event that could raise more money to fight cancer. Months later he pulled together a small committee to plan the first team relay event known as the City of Destiny Classic 24-Hour Run Against Cancer.

In 1986, 19 teams took part in the first team relay event on the track at the colorful, historical Stadium Bowl and raised $33,000. An indescribable spirit prevailed at the track and in the tents that dotted the infield.
